Hello travelers! Today we come with the ultimate guide to jumping over the city of Amsterdam enjoying one of the most wonderful capitals in Europe. Surely, if you haven't done it yet, at some point you have crossed your mind to discover the beautiful Dutch city, and it’s a good idea! From European Getaways we encourage you to take the plunge.

 Also known as the "Venice of the North", being endowed with more than 75 kilometers of canals, it is a very peculiar city since we find it below sea level. Yes, you read that right, Amsterdam is located at an average of negative two meters below the water, so although the weather is wet and quite cold throughout the winter, we recommend a hundred percent to visit during the spring or summer months, when the weather is milder and the whole city blooms.

As you are used to, we have prepared a low-cost planning of 3 days so you will not leave anything to visit without having to dig too deep into your pockets.

Day 1: We have landed at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport; how do I get to the city center in the most efficient and economical way? Undoubtedly the metro will be your best ally. Only one transfer will be necessary to get to the city center, where your hotel, hostel or apartment will be located. For us, the best option is to settle in the center or nearby and take advantage of the 4-day pass offered by the streetcars to move around the city. You will quickly realize that there are few cars and motorcycles patrolling the city, these are replaced by the aforementioned streetcars and an impressive number of bicycles. Once settled we will take a walk through the center, enjoying the colorful canals and characteristic buildings, arriving at the square of the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, worth admiring.

 Day 2: It often rains in the Netherlands, so we recommend structuring your planning according to the weather forecast. However, if you’re lucky and you enjoy 3 full days of good weather, day 2 would be the best day to visit the famous Heineken brewery, where you can experience the brewing process firsthand, ¡it will be time to think about green! As the experience ends with a tasting of their product, which you will not want to abuse if you want to continue enjoying the guide. Another must, is visit Anne Frank’s house, a very emotional and full of history itinerary and at the end of the day going to the Van Gogh museum.

Day 3: We have reserved the third day to visit one of the most charming villages in Europe; we are talking about Zaanse Schans.  Considered a suburb of the municipality Zaanstad, is located 50 minutes by bus from Amsterdam Central Station, this place is known as an open-air museum, with its collection of historic mills and authentic stores over 200 years old. It is one of the tourist attractions for visitors to Amsterdam so we recommend you making a stop that you will surely enjoy.

Recommendations: We will limit ourselves giving you a very important warning. When you enter the city, you are entering a terrain governed by bicycles; they have the right of way in all cases. So, forget about crossing any crosswalk without first letting bicycles pass or you will end up being run over!

¡Hola viajeros! Hoy os traemos para todos vosotros la guía definitiva para asaltar la ciudad de Ámsterdam disfrutando y sacando el máximo provecho a la maravillosa capital de Países Bajos. Seguro que, de no haberlo hecho todavía, en algún momento se os ha pasado por la cabeza aventuraros a descubrir la preciosa ciudad holandesa, ¡y no es para menos! Desde European Getaways os animamos a dar un  paso adelante.

Conocida también como la “Venecia del Norte”, al estar dotada de más de 75 kilómetros de canales, es una ciudad muy peculiar ya que la encontramos por debajo del nivel del mar. Sí, has leído bien, Ámsterdam se sitúa a dos metros negativos de media por debajo del agua, por lo que, si bien el clima es húmedo y bastante frío durante todo el invierno, recomendamos al cien por cien visitarla durante los meses de primavera o verano, cuando se suaviza el clima y florece en su máximo esplendor.

Como ya os tenemos acostumbrados, hemos elaborado un planning low-cost de unos 3 días para que no te dejes nada por visitar sin tener que hurgar demasiado en tus bolsillos.

 Día 1: Hemos aterrizado en el Aeropuerto de Ámsterdam Schiphol, ¿Cómo me dirijo de la manera más eficiente y económica al centro de la ciudad? Sin duda alguna el metro será tu mejor aliado. Un solo transbordo será necesario para llegar al centro, dónde se ubicará vuestro hotel, hostal o apartamento. Desde nuestra experiencia, la mejor opción es instalaros en el centro y aprovechar el pase de 4 días que ofrecen los tranvías para movernos por la ciudad. Rápidamente os daréis cuenta de que, son escasos los coches y motos que patrullan la ciudad, éstos son sustituidos por los mencionados tranvías y sobre todo un número impresionante de bicicletas. ¡Así que os animamos a visitarla sobre ruedas!

Una vez instalados daremos un paseo por el centro, disfrutando de los coloridos canales y edificios característicos, llegando a la plaza del Palacio Real de Ámsterdam, digno de admirar.

 Día 2: En los Países Bajos suele llover con frecuencia, por eso recomendamos estructurar vuestro planning en función de la previsión meteorológica. No obstante, si la suerte está de vuestro lado y disfrutáis de 3 días enteros de buen tiempo, el día 2 sería el indicado para visitar la famosa fábrica de Heineken, donde podréis vivir la experiencia de la elaboración de la cerveza de primera mano, ¡tocará pensar en verde un buen rato! Y es que la experiencia finaliza en una cata de su producto, del cuál no querréis abusar si queréis seguir el horario al pie de la letra. Otro indispensable es hacer una visita a la casa de Anna Frank, un itinerario muy emotivo y cargado de historia para luego finalizar el día acudiendo al museo Van Gogh.

Día 3: El tercer día lo hemos reservado para visitar uno de los pueblos con más encanto de Europa; hablamos de Zaanse Schans. Considerado una barriada del municipio Zaanstad, se sitúa a 50 minutos en autobús de la estación central de Amsterdam, este lugar se conoce como un museo al aire libre, con su colección de molinos históricos y tiendas auténticas de más de 200 años de antigüedad. Es uno de los atractivos turísticos para los visitantes de Ámsterdam por lo que os recomendamos efectuar una parada que de bien seguro disfrutaréis.

Recomendaciones: Nos limitaremos a daros una advertencia bastante importante. Al pisar la ciudad entráis en un terreno gobernado por las bicicletas; ellas gozan de prioridad de paso en todos los casos. Por ello, ¡olvidaros de cruzar cualquier paso de cebra sin antes dejar pasar a las bicicletas o acabaréis arrollados!
