Hello traveler! Today we bring you one of the most historically important cities in France, rich in gastronomy and culture thanks to its Renaissance works that will make you go deep into its city, Lyon, the third largest city in France. One of the best times of the year to visit this destination is at Christmas time, when you can find numerous Christmas markets that fill the city with life. 

Day 1: On your first day in Lyon we recommend you start by discovering the ‘Vieux Lyon’, the old town where you can see numerous mansions from the medieval and renaissance period, and where you will be surrounded by history with every step you take. Strolling through its streets you will find the ‘traboules’, secret streets and alleys that connect streets with courtyards between buildings within Vieux Lyon itself, which will make you disconnect for a few moments with fresh air and different views within the neighborhood. After your walk you can visit the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, a Roman Catholic church renowned for its astronomical clock. To end the morning you can visit one of the city's most emblematic monuments, the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, a church that was financed by the citizens of Lyon themselves in gratitude to the Virgin Mary for protecting the city during the Franco-Prussian War. Because it sits on a hill you can choose to either take the funicular or walk up to the basilica. Once you get there, you will not only see the 17th century basilica and its museum, you will also have an incredible panoramic view of the city.

In the afternoon, near the basilica, it is a good option to visit the Roman theater of Fourvière, where you will be able to see the ruins of the ancient Roman theater. 

In the evening we recommend you to try some typical food of the city, such as quenelles or andouillette, a very good place to do this could be one of the biggest squares in Europe, the Place Bellecour. 

Day 2: On the morning of the second day, you can opt to explore the highlights of the capital of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. We recommend starting with the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, located on Place des Terreaux. Apart from being an impressive and jaw-dropping building, this museum houses an impressive collection of art from antiquity to the modern era.  Later on, as you leave the museum, you'll come across Lyon's city hall, one of the city's most emblematic and oldest buildings, so much so that it was named a historical monument. Moreover, just a few meters from the town hall, in the Place des Terreaux, you will find the Bartholdi fountain, a great work of art designed by the sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, the artist who also created the Statue of Liberty. 

In the afternoon, not far from where you were this morning, we suggest you visit the Opéra Nouvel. A neoclassical and modern building that commands respect and fascination. 

In the evening, we would suggest having dinner near the Croix-Rousse area, an area of Lyon with a nightlife atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy yourself while you have a drink late into the night. 

Day 3: On the third day you can visit one of the largest and most famous urban parks in France, the Parc de la Tête d'Or, where you can visit the Lyon Zoo, open to the public free of charge, and the botanical garden.  If you're there in summer, you have the option of taking a boat trip on the large artificial lake in the middle of the park. Otherwise, you can choose to stroll around the park or spend some time picnicking or having breakfast in a very different atmosphere from the rest, with green areas where you can take a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city. In addition, within the same park you will also find the Georges Préveral Velodrome, a place open to the public that has hosted numerous competitions over the years. 

On the last afternoon before you leave the city, we highly recommend you visit the Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse covered market, a renowned market with more than 50 stalls offering a wide variety of gourmet products such as meats, seafood, cheeses, wines and pastries. 

Later, if you still have time, as a last activity we suggest a stroll along the Rhône and Saône riverside past the Musée des Confluences.

Recommendations: Lyon is famous for its gastronomy, so if you visit the city you can't leave without trying the local dishes. The public transport network is an excellent way to get around the city, as it is very efficient and will allow you to get around without any problems. If you have some extra time, you can consider taking a boat trip on the Saône and Rhône rivers.

Hoy te traemos una de las ciudades más importantes históricamente de Francia, rica en gastronomía y en su cultura gracias a sus obras renacentistas que te harán adentrarse en su ciudad, Lyon, la tercera ciudad más grande de Francia. Una de las mejores épocas del año para visitar este destino es en navidad pues durante estas fechas podrás encontrar numerosos mercados navideños que llenan de vida la ciudad. 

Día 1: En tu primer día en Lyon te aconsejamos empezar descubriendo el “Viejo Lyon”, el casco antiguo de la ciudad en el que podrás contemplar numerosas mansiones de la época medieval y renacentista, y  donde te verás envuelto de historia a cada paso que des. Paseando por sus calles encontrarás los “traboules”, calles y callejones secretos que conectan calles con patios entre edificios dentro del mismo Vieux Lyon, que te harán desconectar unos instantes con aire fresco y vistas distintas dentro del barrio. Después de tu paseo puedes visitar  la Catedral de San Juan Bautista, església catòlica romana reconocida por su reloj astronómico. 

Para finalizar la mañana puedes visitar uno de los monumentos más emblemáticos de la ciudad,  la Basílica de Notre-Dame de Fourvière, una iglesia que fue financiada por los propios ciudadanos de Lyon en agradecimiento a la Virgen María por proteger la ciudad durante la Guerra Franco-Prusiana. Debido a que se encuentra en una colina puedes optar por subir o bien con el funicular o bien a pie hasta la basílica. Al llegar parte de observar una basílica del S. XVII y su museo, tendrás también unas vistas panorámicas increíbles de la ciudad. 

Por la tarde, cerca de la basílica, una buena opción es visitar el teatro Romano de Fourvière, donde te podrás visionar entre ruinas del antiguo teatro romano. 

Por la noche te aconsejamos probar alguna comida típica de la ciudad como quenelles o andouillette, un muy buen sitio para ello puede ser una de las plazas más grandes de Europa, la Place Bellecour. 

Día 2: En la mañana del segundo día, puedes optar por visitar los museos más destacados de la capital de la región de Auvernia-Ródano-Alpes. Para empezar te recomendamos el museo de Bellas artes de Lyon, ubicado en la Place des Terreaux, aparte de ser ya un edificio impresionante que te dejará boquiabierto, este museo alberga una impresionante colección de arte en la que podrás recorrer desde la antigüedad hasta la era moderna..  Más tarde al salir del museo, muy cerca podrás encontrar el ayuntamiento de Lyon, uno de los edificios más emblemáticos y antiguos de la ciudad, tanto que fue nombrado como monumento histórico. Por otra parte, a escasos metros del ayuntamiento se encuentra, en la Place des Terreaux, la fuente Bartholdi, una gran obra de arte diseñada por el escultor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, artista que  también creó la Estatua de la Libertad. 

Por la tarde, no muy lejos de donde has estado esta mañana, te recomendamos visitar la ópera Nouvel. Un edificio de estilo neoclásico y moderno que al verlo impone respeto y fascinación. 

Entrada la noche te sugerimos cenar cerca de la zona de Croix-Rousse, una zona de Lyon con ambiente de noche en el que distraerse y estar a gusto mientras tomas algo bien entrada la noche. 

Día 3: Este tercer día puedes aprovechar para visitar uno de los parques urbanos más grandes y famosos de Francia, el Parc de la Tête d'Or, en el que podrás visitar el zoológico de Lyon, que es gratuito, y el jardín botánico.  Si vas en verano tienes la opción de ir en barca por el gran lago artificial que hay en medio del parque. Si no es el caso puedes optar por pasear por el parque o  pasar un rato de picnic o desayunando en un ambiente muy diferente al resto, con zonas verdes donde descansar del ajetreo de la gran ciudad. Además, dentro del mismo parque también encontrarás el Velódromo Georges Préveral, un lugar abierto al público que ha albergado numerosas competiciones a lo largo de los años. 

Ya en la última tarde antes de abandonar la ciudad, te aconsejamos visitar el mercado cubierto de Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse, un renombrado mercado que cuenta con más de 50 puestos en los encontraras una amplia variedad de productos gourmet como carnes, mariscos, quesos, vinos y pasteles. 

Más tarde puedes, si aún te queda tiempo, como última actividad te sugerimos pasear al lado del río Ródano y el río Saona pasando por el lado del Museo de las Confluencias.

Recomendaciones: Lyon es famosa por su gastronomía, así que si visitas la ciudad no puedes irte sin probar los platos locales. Por otra parte, para desplazarte por la ciudad una excelente opción es haciendo uso de la red de transporte público, pues es muy eficiente y te permitirá moverte sin problemas. Si dispones de un tiempo extra, puedes considerar hacer un recorrido en barco por los ríos Saona y Ródano.

Hello traveler! Today we bring you to the capital of Slovenia, the city with various styles captured in one, where you can stroll among dragons and enjoy its magnificent streets filled with secrets. Welcome to Ljubljana, traveler!

Day 1: On the first day, we recommend starting by visiting the city's historic center, heading towards Preseren Square, where you can observe the famous Franciscan Church, a curious pink church that you will surely love. There, you could stop for a drink and later continue by passing through the Dragon Bridge, one of the largest symbols of Ljubljana. Another nearby spot you can visit is the Triple Bridge, one of the most curious bridges on the continent, crossing the city's river, the Ljubljanica. For lunch, we recommend stopping near the central market, located on the other side of the river, advising you to go early to avoid crowds. There you can try typical dishes of the city like cevapi. 

In the afternoon, you can visit Ljubljana Castle. To get there, you can walk up a long hill, but if you prefer, you can take a funicular and arrive much earlier than walking. Upon arrival, you can visit the castle and see one of the best views of the city nearby, where you can observe the entire city from above.

Day 2: On this second day, you can start by exploring Tivoli Park, the city's green lung, where after walking all its paths, you can stop for a drink or a picnic and enjoy eating there. In the afternoon, you can go to one of the city's most famous neighborhoods, the alternative district of Metelkova Mesto. There you will find one of the most curious sites in the city, surrounded by street art and surrounded by walls that were military buildings from the Yugoslav era. There you have many options to stop for dinner and then have a drink at night.

Day 3: On this third and last day, we recommend starting by visiting Republic Square, a place with a very important historical past for the city and a charming place for visitors like yourselves. After this, we recommend, if you have the option, to visit Lake Bled, a natural island with beautiful landscapes to end this third and final day. This small island with a church in the middle and a large castle atop a cliff is undoubtedly one of our favorite sites in the visit to the Slovenian capital.

Recommendations: You can visit this city at any time of the year, although we recommend summer, when you will have many more activities within the city. For accommodation, we definitely recommend a unique and incredible experience, which is staying in a prison, more precisely the Celica Art Hotel.

¡Hola viajero! Hoy te traemos a la capital de Eslovenia, la ciudad con varios estilos recogidos en una, en la podrás pasear entre dragones y disfrutar de sus magníficas calles repletas de secretos. ¡Bienvenido a Liubliana viajero! 

Día 1: El primer día te recomendamos empezar visitando el centro histotico de la ciudad, dirigiendote hacia la plaza Preseren, donde podras observar la famosa Iglesia Franciscana, una curiosa iglesia de color rosado que de muy seguro te encantara. allí podrías parar a tomar algo y más tarde seguir pasando por el Puente de los Dragones o allí conocido como  Zmajski Most, siendo uno de los mayores símbolos de Liubliana. Otro sitio cerca por el que puedes pasar es el puente triple, uno de los más curiosos del continente, atravesando el río de la ciudad, el río Ljubljanica.   

Para comer te recomendamos parar cerca del mercado central, situado al otro lado del río, recomendándote ir a primera hora para no encontrar demasiada gente. Allí podrás probar platos típicos de la ciudad como el cevapi. 

Por la tarde puedes ir al Castillo de Liubliana. Para llegar puedes ir a pie por una larga cuesta, pero si no puedes ir en un funicular y llegar mucho antes que andando. A la llegada puedes visitar el castillo y ver una de las mejores vistas de la ciudad muy cerca de allí, donde podrás observar toda la ciudad desde las alturas. 

Día 2: Este segundo día puedes empezar por recorrer el parque Tivoli, el pulmón verde de la ciudad, donde después de recorrer todos sus caminos puedes parar a tomar algo o hacer un picnic y aprovechar a comer allí. 

Por la tarde puedes ir a uno de los barrios más famosos de la ciudad, el barrio alternativo de Metelkova Mesto. Allí encontrarás uno de los sitios más curiosos de la ciudad, envuelto de arte callejero y rodeado de paredes que eran edificios militares de la época Yugoslava. Allí tienes muchas opciones para parar a cenar y después tomar algo por la noche. 

Día 3: Este tercer y último día te recomendamos empezar visitando la Plaza de la República, un sitio con un pasado histórico muy importante para la ciudad y un sitio encantador para los visitantes como vosotros. Después de esto lo que te recomendamos es si tienes opción a visitar el lago Bled, una isla natural con paisajes preciosos para terminar de pasar este tercer y último día. Esta pequeña isla con una iglesia en medio y un gran castillo en lo alto de un acantilado es sin lugar a dudas uno de nuestros sitios favoritos de la visita a la capital eslovena. 

Recomendaciones: para visitar esta ciudad puedes venir en cualquier época del año aunque te recomendamos las de verano, donde tendrás muchas más actividades dentro de la ciudad.  

Para dormir, sin duda te recomendamos una experiencia única e increíble, que es alojarte en una cárcel, más concretamente el Hotel Célica Art.

 

Travel essentials

Hello blogger! At European Getaways, we want to help you with your travels, and therefore today, we'll try to give you some advice on what you absolutely must take in your travel bag.

To start with, the essential aspect of this section is to save space, time preparing your travel bag, avoid unnecessary heavy luggage, and ultimately save money on all this and on the extra baggage fees, whether traveling by plane or any other means.

Let's start with something that may seem obvious, which is the toiletry bag. We always carry something to maintain hygiene while traveling, but you probably carry more than necessary. We recommend you to go out with the essentials like toothbrush and toothpaste, comb, soap/shampoo, and deodorant/cologne. With these, you'll have what you need for your care away from home.

For the trip, bring comfortable clothes, which apart from allowing you to move around the chosen destination more comfortably, tend to take up much less space. Also, remember to bring spare underwear "just in case." Always try to have a hat and sunglasses handy, especially in summer, for those hotter days. On the other hand, if the weather is changeable, you should have a light coat or even a raincoat to try to avoid getting wet unexpectedly.

Another thing you must bring is a small first aid kit. Just a couple of medications in case you feel unwell during the trip can save you from feeling bad, and it takes up very little space in our travel pack.

To avoid being stranded without communication, remember to bring a charger for your mobile phone with its respective adapter if you're traveling abroad, as many places will have a different plug than yours. If you want, you can also try to bring an external battery if you plan to spend the whole day away from home to avoid running out of battery on your device.

Last but certainly not least, don't forget your travel documents, such as transportation tickets, hotel reservations, identity card, or passport, etc. It may seem obvious, but often with nerves, we know that it's easy to forget about one of these things.

¡Hola blogger! Desde European getaways te queremos ayudar en tus viajes y por ello hoy, intentaremos darte algunos consejos para saber que tienes que llevar si o si en tu bolsa de viaje.

 

Para empezar, lo esencial de este apartado es poder ahorrar espacio, tiempo de preparación de la bolsa de viaje, carga pesada e innecesaria de tu maleta y al final poder ahorrar en todo esto y en dinero que te supone llevar mucho más equipaje tanto en avión como en cualquier otra forma de viajar. 

Empezaremos por algo que pueda resultar algo obvio, que es el neceser. Siempre llevaremos algo para poder tener nuestra higiene en los viajes, pero para ello seguro que llevas cosas de más. Te recomendamos salir con lo imprescindible como el cepillo y pasta de dientes, peine, jabón/shampoo y desodorante/colonia. Con ello tendrás lo necesario para tus cuidados fuera de casa.  

Si es tu viaje, llévate ropa cómoda, que aparte de poder moverte por el destino elegido con mayor comodidad tienden a ocupar mucho menos. Recuerda también llevar ropa interior de repuesto “por si las moscas”. Intenta tener siempre a mano también, más en verano, una gorra y gafas de sol para esos días más calurosos. Por otro lado, si el clima es cambiante, debes tener un abrigo ligero e incluso un chubasquero para intentar evitar mojarte de imprevisto. 

Otra cosa que debes llevarte si o si es un pequeño botiquín. Simplemente un par de medicamentos por si nos encontramos mal durante el viaje pueden llegar a salvarte de pasarlo mal y ocupa poquísimo en nuestro pack de viaje. 

Para no quedarte incomunicado, recuerda llevar cargador para el teléfono móvil con su respectivo adaptador si sales fuera del país, ya que muchos sitios el enchufe será diferente al tuyo. Si quieres puedes probar de llevar también una batería externa si tienes pensado pasar todo el día fuera de casa y así evitar quedarte sin batería en el dispositivo.

Ya para el final pero realmente lo más importante, es no olvidarte de tus documentos de viaje, como el billete de transporte, hotel, carnet de identidad o pasaporte, etc. Puede parecer lo más obvio, pero muchas veces con los nervios sabemos que puede escaparse pensar en alguna de estas cosas.
